    Features[edit]

    The program combines the features of the company's single-format utilities and is developed to enable hardware-accelerated recovery of lost passwords using the available computing resources of CPU and GPU. The software uses low-level ASM optimization of the source code to accelerate Intel/AMD CPUs and the general-purpose computing on graphics processing units which enables additional GPU acceleration on graphics cards with NVIDIA G80 - Turing/AMD Evergreen - RDNA architecture.

    Along with the standard methods used in recovery of strong passwords, Passcovery Suite uses advanced techniques which optimize the range of passwords to be verified and reduce the search time: exhaustive search (brute force attack) with extended mask, dictionary attack with mutation and "gluing together" of passwords, supporting multilingual Unicode dictionaries, password attack scenarios.

    Passcovery Suite features a set of its own rainbow tables for guaranteed decryption of Microsoft Excel/Word 97-2003 and Adobe PDF 1.1-1.3 files with a short (40-bit) encryption key.

    For user's convenience, the program supports the search saving function. It has the classic Windows GUI and the command-line interface.

    The program is distributed as stand-alone installation kits for Windows x86/x64, certified by the developer's digital signature.

    On May 16, 2012 the release of Passcovery Suite 1.0 was announced[6]. While already supporting NVIDIA graphics cards, the program was the first to offer GPU acceleration on AMD 4xxx-7xxx hardware.

    Passcovery Suite 2.1, released on April 30, 2013, supported Microsoft Office 2013 files and the latest NVIDIA graphics cards[7]. The new release used rainbow tables for guaranteed decryption of Excel/Word 97-2003 files (with a 40-bit encryption key).

    With the release of version 3.0 in April 2014[8], the compatibility features of the program were extended to support all versions of Adobe PDF. Updated rainbow tables were added to enable decrypting of Adobe PDF 1.1-1.3 files with a short encryption key. The new edition supported AMD R7/R9 graphics cards (AMD GCN architecture) and the entire NVIDIA Maxwell family.

    On October 1, 2018 the program was updated to version 3.6 to support the GPU architecture of NVIDIA Turing and AMD Vega.[9] The update had improved performance of the SHA-512 algorithm, which accelerated the recovery of passwords of Microsoft Office 2013 files and TrueCrypt volumes with this algorithm.

    On March 6, 2020 the release of Passcovery Suite 3.8 was announced. The new edition should have better compatibility with the mixed format Microsoft Office 2010/2013 and have new executive cores to enable performance on AMD RDNA graphics cards.[10]

    Restrictions on distribution of GPU licenses[edit]

    Due to an unresolved dispute between Passcovery Co. Ltd. and another Russian company pending in the United States, the software editions which support GPU acceleration are not available to users from the United States.[25] For such users the company offers installation kits without GPU support.
