Pat Divilly (born 24 October 1987) is an Irish fitness expert, author and entrepreneur.[1] He won Galway's young entrepreneurs award in 2014.[2]
Early life[edit]
Divilly was born in Raheen County Limerick and moved to Galway at the age of ten.[citation needed] He is the oldest of four children, to parents Colm and Carol. After attending Barna National school at primary level and Colaiste Iognaid at secondary level he completed a degree in Arts (Geography and Economics) at National University of Ireland Galway[citation needed]. He then went on to become qualified as a personal trainer[citation needed] before moving to England to complete a Masters in Exercise and Nutrition Science at the University of Chester.[3][not in citation given]
Professional life[edit]
Fitness was Divilly’s interest since his teenage years, he was first introduced to the gym at age of 14.[citation needed][tone] He started his career in a commercial gym in Dublin after the completion of a master’s in nutrition science in 2011, before setting up his own fitness classes.[citation needed] He later moved home to Galway.[4][5] In 2012, he founded Pat Divilly Fitness as a small fitness class on Silverstrand beach Barna Co. Galway.[6] The class quickly grew and within a year he set up a studio in Barna village. He quickly built a large online following and was acknowledged by Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg for his social media presence.[7]
Divilly was one of the first trainers in Ireland to initiate online fitness courses.[8] His first book, 21 Day Jump Start, was published in 2013 and became the best selling health and fitness book in Ireland.[citation needed] The book covers his personal experience as well as nutrition and exercise techniques. As of 2013, he has appeared as an expert in health and nutrition in some magazines and newspapers.[9][10]
In May 2013, Divilly became an ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and as part of his fundraising efforts he brought the worlds largest team (of over 500) to Tough Mudder raising over €160,000 in for the charity in the process.[11][12][13] More recently, Divilly became youth mental health ambassador for Console suicide prevention charity in 2015.[14] He was the winner of 2014’s Galway’s Best Young Entrepreneur Awards and a finalist in Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur competition for the best established business category.[6][2]
