Patrick Joseph Falterman II (March 16, 1990 – September 3, 2016) was an American itinerant, travel writer, and canoeist. He was most well known for his writings about hitchhiking and canoeing in Central and South America,[1] and was the creator and writer of "HitchTheWorld.com", where he wrote detailed accounts of his travels.[2]
Amazon
In 2012, Falterman began canoeing in the Amazon Basin, and traveled for a time by a handmade log raft.[3][4][5] He paddled more than 4,000 km in a locally-acquired wooden canoe up twenty Amazonian rivers over the course of two years.
Death
On September 3, 2016, Falterman was piloting a single-engine plane with friend Zach Esters over the Trinity River. Witnesses said that it appeared he was doing stunts, including a barrel roll, when the plane's engine stalled and crashed into the river.[6] Neither pilot Falterman nor passenger Esters survived the crash.[7][8]
