The Patriot Party is a political party that, according to The Wall Street Journal, former President of the United States Donald Trump has privately proposed starting during his final days as President in January 2021 in order to have a continued influence on US politics.[1] Trump had also suggested while leaving Presidential office that his "movement" was "only just beginning".[2]
According to Zignal Labs, a media intelligence platform, after The Wall Street Journal's report was published, the search terms "Third Party", "New Party", and "Patriot Party" spiked online[3] and from January 19-20, 2021, there were a total of 131,000 mentions of the Patriot Party across social media, websites, broadcast media, traditional media.[3] The idea also gained interest on Facebook and Twitter, with one "Patriot Party" Twitter account gaining 95,000 followers and one Facebook account gaining 16,000 likes both on January 20.[3]
