Patrizia Lombardo (professor)
Patrizia Lombardo (born January 23, 1950 in Udine and died June 28, 2019[1] in Geneva) was a professor of French literature, comparative literature and cinema, mainly at the University of Geneva.
Biography[edit]
A high school student in Udine, after studying at the Faculty of Languages at the University of Venice, Patrizia Lombardo continued her studies at Oxford and at Princeton University. Then, she obtained, in 1981, at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, her postgraduate doctorate in comparative literature with the thesis The Book and the Letter: a history of the subject, directed by Roland Barthes and Louis Marin..[2]
She taught at Princeton University, the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, the University of Pittsburgh
Then she was a professor at the University of Geneva where she taught French literature, comparative literature and cinema.
Her research fields and publications focused on the literature and intellectual history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (especially Edgar Poe, Charles Baudelaire, Roland Barthes Conference on Roland Barthes at the Collège de France), on aesthetics and art criticism, on history and the theory of architecture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and on cinematographic aesthetics.
A specialist in the theory of emotions, she has been, from 2009, head of the Affective Dynamics and Aesthetic Emotions project at the Swiss National Center in Competence in Research (NCCR) in Affective Sciences, since 2009.[3]
Patrizia Lombardo became a member of the Academic Society of Geneva in 2000 and was its president from 2014 until her death.
She became a member of Academia Europaea in 2008[1] and was a member of the scientific committee of the French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies (RFIEA).
