Paul Beaulieu is a Canadian musician and visual artist currently living in Burlington, Vermont.

Early life[edit]

Paul Beaulieu grew up in Montreal, Quebec. He studied at McGill University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a Masters of Library & Information Sciences. After his studies, he worked at a librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library before moving back to Montreal.

Musical career[edit]

As singer-songwriter, Beaulieu performs under his own name as well as the moniker A Montreal Paul. He is a prolific artist with an extensive catalog of albums.[1] many of which are self-recorded and produced. Musically-speaking, his compositions as A Montreal Paul draw inspirations from acoustic folk and psychedelia, and showcase his guitar playing and singing, occasionally including a capella harmonies as well as additional instrumentation.

A Montreal Paul's debut album 'Awaiting an Awakening' was recorded at Marsonic Studios with engineer Shane Watt, with whom he has worked extensively, and was mastered by Harris Newman. His 2014 album When We Get There was produced by multimedia artist Laura Crapo with engineering assistance from Alden Penner who also made musical contributions to the album. Beaulieu recorded his 2018 album 'Words...and Things' with Max Demarais at Bridgehead Studio who also recorded portions of A Montreal Paul's 2020 album 'Alternative Reality Show, Episode 2'. Beaulieu's most recent album '2020 Vision' is available through Totally Real Probably Not Fake Records[2].

As a recording artist Beaulieu has incorporated the contributions of other musicians on several of his albums, including: Alden Penner, Laura Crapo, Krista Muir, Shane Watt, Eric Bent, Mari Sild and Nicholas Waters.

Beaulieu has received critical acclaim for his work. Notably, A Montreal Paul's 2014 album 'When We Get There' spent several weeks on the Canadian National Campus-Community Radio Association Charts, topping at number 7[3], and garnered sustained media interview interest[4].

He has performed live extensively, particularly in Montreal [5] [6] [7] [8], and Burlington, VT[9]; as well as in support of other artists including Shane Watt[10], Alden Penner[11], Krista Muir, as well as Jason Baker and Patti Shannon[12].

He is an occasional contributor to other musical initiatives. From 2014-2015, he arranged and composed music for worship services at the St Jax Montréal the Apostle Anglican Church in Montreal. Most recently, he has contributed to the Montreal-based sing-along ensemble Best Friends (Grenadine Records) with whom he has performed since 2011[13] and contributed vocals to Swall's 2016 album 'A Swall Kind of Feeling'[14]

In addition to his music, Beaulieu is an accomplished visual artist. His photographs and illustrations are showcased in his album art.
