Paul Chin (born 14 May 1989) is a Caymanian musical artist, producer, and DJ.

Early Life[edit]

Chin was born in George Town, Cayman Islands, and raised in Bodden Town. His parents are both Jamaican immigrants to Cayman, and his father is Chinese-Jamaican.[1] He moved to Toronto, Ontario to attend OCAD University where he completed a Bachelor of Design in illustration.[2][3]

Career[edit]

Chin began releasing posting music on SoundCloud before independently releasing instrumental hip-hop EPs in 2012 on Bandcamp. In 2014, he released his third EP The Forest, followed by a compilation of remixes of songs from the EP via French netlabel Cosmonostro.[4][5]

In 2014 Chin was commissioned by the Polaris Music Prize to design the commemorative poster for Shad's shortlisted album Flying Colours.[6]

His fourth EP Dancing Drums was released in 2015 via Brooklyn-based label Bastard Jazz Recordings, featuring a remix of the lead single by Detroit producer Shigeto.[7]

In 2018, Chin contributed production to Shad's album A Short Story About A War, which earned a Polaris Music Prize nomination in 2019.[8][9][10]

In 2020, CBC Radio One premiered "Take It Or Leave It" featuring Desirée Dawson[11], announcing his new project Full Spectrum. The EP marked his first project after a hiatus following immigration issues[12], and the first predominantly comprised of collaborations with featured vocalists. Exclaim! Magazine named Full Spectrum one of the 25 Best EPs of 2020.[13]
