Paul Frambot (born 2001) is a French entrepreneur, CEO and co-founder of Morpho, a decentralized finance (DeFi) lending network built on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible blockchains.[1] As of September 2025, Morpho is among the largest DeFi lending networks by volume, with more than US$13 billion in total deposits.[2]
Education
Frambot studied at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, where he earned a master’s degree in Parallel and Distributed Systems in 2021. His studies focused on distributed and consensus algorithms, and applications in blockchain technology.
Career
Frambot co-founded Morpho in 2021 while completing his master’s degree, and raised the first round of funding from Nascent and Semantic Capital while still in his second year at university.[3]
In 2022, Frambot raised $18 million from venture investment firms including a16z and Variant. Morpho launched its first protocol, Morpho V0, introducing a peer-to-peer matching model for decentralized lending. Within 18 months it facilitated more than US$1 billion in deposits.[4]
In 2024, Morpho released Morpho V1, an immutable protocol that introduced curated lending vaults and the permissionless "Morpho Markets" design. It surpassed US$12 billion in deposits within its first 18 months. Morpho V1 has been adopted by exchanges and fintechs building "DeFi mullets"—consumer-facing apps connected to Morpho’s infrastructure.[5]
In early 2025, Coinbase launched a crypto-backed loans product powered by Morpho, reporting more than US$1 billion in collateral and US$850 million in loans originated.[6] Morpho has also been integrated into platforms including Crypto.com, Gemini, Bitpanda, Ledger, and Trust Wallet.
Fundraising
In 2024, Frambot and his co-founders raised US$50 million in a strategic funding round led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from a16z crypto, Coinbase Ventures, Variant, Pantera, Brevan Howard, BlockTower, and Kraken Ventures.[7]
This followed the $18 million Series A in 2022,[8] and an earlier $2 million seed round in 2021, which Frambot raised while still a student at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
Writing
Frambot has written articles on decentralized finance, covering protocol design, token economics, and risk management, featured in outlets such as Fortune and CoinDesk.[9]
