Paulo Lourenço Martins Alves (born 10 December 1969), commonly known as Paulo Alves, is a Portuguese football manager and former footballer who played as a forward. A native of Vila Real, he is a World Champion at the youth level and has managed numerous clubs across Portugal and abroad.

Playing Career

Alves was a member of Portugal's "Golden Generation" and was part of the squad that won the 1989 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia. He had a distinguished club career, playing for several top-tier clubs in Portugal, most notably a three-season stint with Sporting CP from 1995 to 1998. He also had a brief experience abroad, playing on loan at English club West Ham United and for French club SC Bastia. He earned 13 caps for the senior Portugal national team, scoring 7 goals.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Paulo Alves transitioned into coaching. He has since managed many teams, often with success in the second division. He has won the Liga Portugal 2 title on two separate occasions, with Gil Vicente in 2010–11 and with Moreirense in 2022–23, where he was also named the Coach of the Year.[1]
