Pavithran Theekkuni is an Indian poet known for the post-modern movement in Malayalam literature.[1][2] He is popular for his identity as a fish vendor cum poet, in the Malayalam literary circles.[3][4][5] Media reports often compares his poems with that of A. Ayyappan for their narrating style.[6][7]
Early life
Pavithran was born in Theekkuni, in Kozhikode district, Kerala. "Theekkuni", the name of his native place, later adopted by him as his pen name.[1][8]
Although he had enrolled for a B.A. in Malayalam degree at the Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College, Mahe, he had to discontinue his studies during the first year due to financial issues.[2]
Pavithran has spoken about his poverty and difficult adolescence, which is later said to have influenced his poems. He is working as a fish vendor for his livelihood.[2] His difficult life experiences, hardships and social marginalisation widely resonated in his poetry, often depicting him as a silent witness to the harsh realities and injustices of contemporary life.[9] His poems also inclined towards the anarchic tendencies of modernism.[10]
