Pawan K Sharma (born 30 March 1958) is an Indian film director who hails from the Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh. He is known for critically acclaimed films like *Brina* and *Karim Mohammad*. Both his films have been showcased in prestigious film festivals and received multiple awards around the globe.

Early Life and Education

Pawan is an N.S.D (National School Of Drama) graduate, batch of 1989, with a specialization in Acting. He also completed the Film Appreciation course from (Film and Television Institute of India), Pune. Since then, he has contributed substantially to theatre, television, and films. He has worked as a visiting faculty member in various theatre workshops conducted by NSD in various regions of India.

Career

Sharma joined the film and television industry to expand the horizon of his creativity and ventured into screen-writing, direction, art direction, and produced content – fiction, non-fiction shows, and documentaries. During the course of his career, he has worked with eminent theatre and film personalities such as Pankaj Kapur[1], Naseeruddin Shah[2], Siddharth Basu[3], John Rotalic (Australia), Habib Tanvir[4], Fritz Banfit (Germany), Ratan Thiyam[5] etc.

Awards

Sharma’s debut feature film ‘Brina’ (2016), based on the true story of customs in the Mandi district, won him accolades across the world. The film won Best Film Jury and Best Villain Awards both in the Prague International Film Festival as well as in the Jaipur International Film Festival, and the Best Feature Film Award at the International Film Festival, Shimla in 2016. His second film, "Karim Mohammad," earned him the Best Director award at the Haryana International Film Festival in 2018.

Upcoming

Sharma's upcoming film can rightly be called the need of the hour. The film is called "Vanrakshak" (Forest Guard) and is slated to release by April 2020. The storyline of the film touches upon the burning issues of global warming and conservation of the environment.
