Peak Indicators Limited is a data science & analytics consultancy[1] founded in September 2008[2] and headquartered in Chesterfield, UK.
Founders and Directors
The company has two co-founders, Andrew Ball and Antony Heljula.
Ball incorporated Peak Indicators as a limited company in September 2008.[2] Shortly after incorporation, Heljula joined the company as an employee and was subsequently made a company director and shareholder in October 2009.[3]
At the time of incorporation, Ball and Heljula were aged 43 and 32 years respectively[3]
By the end of 2021, Ball was still serving in his capacity as company Chairman and Chief Operating Officer (COO) with Heljula serving as Technical Director. This reflects the original job roles the pair undertook during the company's initial formation 13 years earlier.
Early History
The company co-founders, Ball and Heljula, originally met in 2001 in London whilst working on a Siebel CRM project at Reuters (now Thomson Reuters).
At that time, Ball worked for Siebel Systems and Heljula was an independent IT Contractor working as a Data Warehouse developer at Reuters. At Reuters, the pair were both involved in deploying a business intelligence product called Siebel Analytics.
In 2003, Heljula became a Senior Consultant at Siebel Systems, working directly for Ball (who was the Practice Manager of Siebel's European team of Siebel Analytics consultants).
In September 2005, Oracle Corporation announced their acquisition of Siebel Systems for $5.85 billion.[4] Ball and Heljula subsequently became Oracle employees and the Siebel Analytics product was renamed to Oracle Business Intelligence (now Oracle Analytics Cloud). After the acquisition, the pair were moved into different areas of Oracle Consulting's EMEA division but remained in contact.
Towards the end of 2008 and after serving approximately 3 years at Oracle Corporation, Ball and Heljula decided to team up to build a new company (which Ball had just incorporated) that specialised in training and expert services relating to Oracle Business Intelligence, with Ball taking responsibility for company growth and financial matters and Heljula focusing on the company's technical services.
Ownership
As of December 2021, the company remained privately owned by the Ball and Heljula families with Andrew & Helen Ball owning a combined 51% and Antony & Kate Heljula owning a combined 49%.[3]
Headquarters
Peak Indicators' main office location is Hayfield House, Devonshire Street, Chesterfield, S41 7ST, UK.[5]
The Hayfield House building is wholly owned by Peak Indicators Investments Limited (currently trading as Great2[6]). Peak Indicators Investments Limited is a separate investment company jointly owned by the co-founders of Peak Indicators.[7]
Innovations
Analytics Digital Assistant (Ada)
In December 2020, Peak Indicators announced the launch of "world-first analytics digital assistant for Human Resources". The innovation, named "Ada" after mathematician Ada Lovelace, was quoted to have been designed to improve how companies obtain analytical insights from HR data, reducing the time taken to answer analytical queries.[8]
Tallinn Machine Learning
Tallinn Machine Learning (ML) is quoted to be a "machine learning and data science automation platform" that is "designed to significantly reduce the cost, effort and risk of machine learning initiatives".[9]
ReplAI
ReplAI was a prototype system for the automated production of highlights during a tennis match. Making use of custom-built deep learning algorithms, ReplAI was an artificial intelligence (AI) system that could determine in real-time when a tennis point was in progress and therefore capture only the actual match play, eliminating the dead-time between points. Once captured, the points could be categorised and either published to social media or live-streamed to YouTube.
The ReplAI system was first trialled at the National Premier League 2020 tennis finals hosted at Sutton Tennis & Squash Club, London.[10]
