Peepal Tree (Movie) is a 2022 Hindi, Marathi & English Eco-drama tragic-comedy film written and directed by National Award Director Kranti Kanade. It deals with the issue of urban tree killings in contemporary India. It released in Indian cinemas on Sept 23, 2022 to favorable reviews.
Plot[edit]
Based on true events, when a Police academy cuts sacred trees, a neighboring family tries to protect them with the help of a Tree Activist. It turns into a bureaucratic tragic-comedy exposing institutional apathy and revealing ill-conceived and toothless tree preservation laws.

Critical response[edit]
Peepal Tree released in the United States on October 29, 2021 and in India on September 23, 2022 receiving favorable reviews. Robert Abele in the Los Angeles Times called it "Compelling poetry".[1] The Times of Indiacalled it "Earnest, stirring and revelatory"[2], Scroll said "Kranti’s mission is both heartfelt and mildly comical[3]", Maharashtra's leading newspaper Daily Sakal called it "Truthful and shattering"[4] It was nominated for Best Political Film Exposé by Political Film Society of Hollywood along with Ridley Scott's The Last Duel.[5]
