) is a 2026 Indian Malayalam-language social satire film directed by actor Rajesh Madhavan in his directorial debut.[1][2] Produced by Santhosh T. Kuruvilla under the banner STK Frames in association with Binu George Alexander, the film features writer Subash Chandran, Raina Radhakrishnan, and Shinoj in lead roles, alongside nearly 100 newcomers.[3]
Plot
Set in the fictional rural village of Pattada in Palakkad, the film is a satirical drama centered on the lives of Charulatha, her lover Baburaj, and Baburaj's pet dog, Suttu. The narrative explores how a young woman and an innocent animal become the targets of collective public rage and irrational social norms. It serves as a commentary on the "buried violence" within rural communities and the struggle for individuality against patriarchal control.
Cast
- Raina Radhakrishnan as Charulatha
- Subash Chandran
- Shinoj
- Rajesh Madhavan
- Suttu (the dog)
Production
The film was officially announced as actor Rajesh Madhavan's transition to direction, following his success in films like Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam and Nna Thaan Case Kodu.[4] The screenplay was written by debutant Ravishankar. The technical crew includes cinematographer Sabin Uralikandy, editor Chaman Chakko, and music composer Dawn Vincent. Much of the cast was recruited from local theater backgrounds to maintain an authentic Palakkadan atmosphere.[5]
Release
Pennum Porattum had its gala premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and was later screened in the 'Malayalam Cinema Today' category at the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in December 2025.[6] Originally scheduled for a 6 February release, it was rescheduled and released theatrically on 13 February 2026.[7]
