Political Career[edit]

Toland was a candidate for the Electoral district of Broadwater in the 2015 Queensland state election. In 2016, she was a candidate for Gold Coast Mayor in the local council election. She lost the vote to the incumbent Mayor Tom Tate.

Crime Corruption Investigation[edit]

In 2016 Toland gave evidence into a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation known as Operation Belcarra, an inquiry into the possibly illegal conduct of candidates in the 2016 local government elections. It was alleged that some candidates had formed an undeclared group, and provided an electoral funding and financial disclosure return that was false or misleading.[2]

Perjury Charge[edit]

Toland was alleged to have knowingly given false testimony at the Belcarra inquiry into the conduct of candidates at the Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and Logan council elections. The Crime and Corruption Commission charged CFMEU-backed Toland after earlier claiming part of her evidence did “not seem credible”. Toland was released on bail, to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on December 13.[3]
