Percussive Acoustic Guitar is an instructional book and DVD written by the guitarist Chris Woods and published by Hal Leonard in March 2013[1].
The book contains instruction on percussive guitar techniques. Categorising the percussive techniques as ‘String Slapping’, ‘Body Percussion’, ‘Tapping’ ‘Harmonics’ and ‘Alternate Tunings’ . The categories are split into chapters dealing with each element. Each chapter contains different examples, each with their own ‘warm-up’. It concludes with several full pieces and is accompanied by a DVD.[2]
Appearing at the time of the percussive acoustic guitar boom[3], the book has been used as an academic reference point for defining the elements which make up percussive acoustic guitar playing[4][5]. The publication was originally intended as a 'how to play' percussive guitar guide [6] and is used by students and teachers to offer an insight into percussive guitar playing[7].
