Perry Bacon Jr. is an American journalist. Since May 2021, he has served as an opinion columnist at the Washington Post. From 2017 to May 2021, he was a senior writer at the American forecasting and polling website FiveThirtyEight.[1]

Early Life and Education

Bacon has a bachelor’s of arts in political science from Yale University. He was an editor at Louisville Male High School's student paper while in attendance there, also contributing to The Courier Journal and the University of Louisville's student paper.[2] Bacon interned for the Washington Post after graduating from Yale.[3]

Journalism career

Bacon is currently an opinion columnist at the Washington Post, where he covers the Biden administration, the American Democratic and Republican Parties, as well as American politics and race and identity. Before joining the Post, he was a senior writer at FiveThirtyEight where he wrote about American politics and was a regular feature of that website's podcast. Bacon has also written for Time magazine and theGrio, and was previously an on-air analyst at MSNBC and a fellow at New America.[4]

Personal life

Bacon was born in Louisville, Kentucky, where he is a current resident.[4]

He is a friend of Congressman and former classmate John Yarmuth.[2]
