Perry Picasshoe
Perry Picasshoe also known as 'Juan Hernandez- Marquez' born in Anaheim Hills, California and is a Latinx-queer multidisciplinary artist who works with painting, photography, clothing and film.[1] Perry's work focuses on some of the hardships he has encountered dealing with a bipolar disorder through an emotional surrealist approach.[1] He further ties connection to the LGTBQ+ community and draws themes of queer romance using a variation between bold and soft tone pigments.[2]
Biography[edit]
Perry was raised in Riverside, California in a low-income Mexican household.[1] Perry attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he studied Art with a full ride scholarship and received his Bachelor's of Arts.[1]
Art[edit]
Perry has been involved in the arts since he was a kid. He often created paintings for his family and made stop motion films of his childhood toys.[1] In many of Picasshoe's artworks, he not only uses bold bright pigments but also experiments with soft warm colors and depicts themes of queer love. Perry hopes to make the LGBTQ+ community feel seen and heard, and yet can see themselves in his paintings. encouraging more representation in the art world.[2] In an interview with Shout Out LA, Picasshoe expresses how he is dedicated to learning new techniques as well as materials.[3]
