Petar Kapelet (Serbian: Петар Капелет; Komárom, Habsburg Monarchy, 1627 - Komárom, Habsburg Monarchy, 1701) was a Serbian Chamberlain [1]in the Habsburg Monarchy before and during the Great Turkish War from 1659 to 1692.[2]

In 1652, he was named commander of the Šajkaši, replacing Luka Rac.[3]

The Serbian Orthodox Church in Komárom was separated from its mother church, which was organized within the Ottoman Empire, so it had a specific organization. The highest ecclesiastical authority was held by the Christian Council, which consisted of "chamber Christian Serbs". Its composition consisted of all adult males. The Christian council discussed and decided on issues within the competence of the church community, and sometimes on private disputes among believers. According to the decision of the Christian Council, the church was managed by the church father [crkveni oci)[4] - the local magistrates were called epitropes - with the help of two or three church sons - the overseer. Their task was to take care of the good of the church and the church community, that is, the clergy, teachers, and the material position of the church and in general the things important for the life of the Serbian people in this remote enclave. They were elected for a year, but they could have stayed in this position longer. They were accountable for their work to the Christian Council and were regularly "pure and true, without any defects".
