Pete Dunaway, stage name of Otávio Augusto Fernandes Cardoso, is a Brazilian singer, keyboardist, guitarist, songwriter, arranger and music producer.

Biography

Dunaway was very successful ever since he played in dance ensembles in São Paulo, at the turn of the 70s, notably in Círculo Militar and Clube Pinheiros. At that time, he was known as Otavinho. However, he did not pursue a career as a singer, despite his high-pitched, clean and tuned vocal register and his unique talent as an arranger.

Dunaway has written several songs and instrumental themes. His trademark was melodious ballads, framed by beautiful arrangements, with emphasis on the strings. He was musical director of Som Livre and RGE-Fermata[1] record companies; he played in the group Memphis, by Marcos Maynard (Colt 45, Lee Jackson) and Dudu França. He recorded several singles and two LPs for Som Livre: Pete Dunaway (1974) and Fantastic Musical Land (1977). In 1996, he released the CD "The Best of The Music of Pete Dunaway and Memphis" on Sky Blue Music. He is the author of numerous hits from the 70s, including I'll be fine, Jet music, Helen, You're the reason, Don't let me cry, Tears of life, Heart to heart, Adam and Eve and Believe me darling.

He was part of the so-called Brazilian singers, Brazilians who sang in English in the 1970s. This movement, embedded between Tropicália and the explosion of Brazilian pop-rock in the 1980s, revealed several artists like him. Dunaway also produced and arranged for, among others, Rita Lee (Fruto Proibido, 1975) and Guilherme Arantes' first album (1976).

Today he works in advertising. But he didn't stop composing. In 2002, the Twister group included No Seu Olhar, a partnership between Dunaway and Ester Campos, on the CD Mochila e Guitarra no Avião.
