Peter, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein[citation needed] (German: Friedrich Ernst Peter; 30 April 1922 in Schloss Louisenlund, Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany[citation needed] – 30 September 1980 in Bienebek, Schleswig-Holstein, West Germany[citation needed]) was the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and Head of both the House of Glücksburg and the entire House of Oldenburg from 10 February 1965 until his death on 30 September 1980.[citation needed] Peter was the third and youngest son[citation needed] of Wilhelm Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and his wife, Princess Marie Melita of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.[citation needed] He was a great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria through her second son, Prince Alfred.
Marriage and issue[edit]
Peter married Princess Marie Alix of Schaumburg-Lippe, daughter of Prince Stephan Alexander Viktor of Schaumburg-Lippe and his wife, Duchess Ingeborg Alix of Oldenburg,[citation needed] on 9 October 1947 in Glücksburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.[citation needed] Peter and Marie Alix had four children,[citation needed] all of whom bore the style Highness:
- Princess Marita of Schleswig-Holstein (born 5 September 1948); married Wilfred Freiherr (Baron) von Plotho on 23 May 1975. They have two children:
- Baron Christoph von Plotho (14 March 1976); married Anahita Varzi in 2010. They have one son:
- Baron Antonius von Plotho (5 September 2013)
- Baroness Irina von Plotho (28 January 1978); married Julius von Bethmann-Hollweg in 2016. They have one son:
- Nikolai von Bethmann-Hollweg (2017)
- Baron Christoph von Plotho (14 March 1976); married Anahita Varzi in 2010. They have one son:
