Peter Babudu
Peter Bonyiah Babudu is a British politician and lawyer, working in the social sector, and is running for selection to become a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Camberwell and Peckham.[1] He has previously been a Labour councillor for the Rye Lane ward in Peckham.[2] While a councillor, as Chair of the Education and Business Scrutiny Commission, Babudu led an investigation into school exclusions [3] and, as the Deputy Cabinet Member for Innovation, led the creation of the Southwark Pioneers Fund.[4]
Early life
Babudu spent his early childhood in Peckham before moving to Camberwell, where he lived on a council estate.[1] He was educated at St Thomas the Apostle College, before graduating from Lincoln College, Oxford, with a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Babudu also has an MSc from Birkbeck, University of London in Development Studies.[5]
Electoral History
Babudu was elected to Southwark Council in 2018 with a vote of 2,287, 64.3% of votes cast.[6] He did not stand as a candidate in the 2022 election.
Career
Babudu worked as a junior economist at the Bank of England, then as a solicitor at international law firm Clifford Chance before moving to the social sector in 2011.[7] He served as a Director at The Social Innovation Partnership, a social impact consultancy, from 2012 to 2016; as a Director at Prime Advocates from 2017 to 2019; and he is currently Assistant Director of Research and Youth Understanding at the Youth Endowment Fund.[8]
Personal life
Babudu married his wife Juliana in 2015 and they have three children.[1] He is of Ghanaian descent.
