Peter Wall (entrepreneur)
Peter Wall (born 1975) is a Canadian entrepreneur and former journalist with a diverse professional background in technology, communications, and media.[1] He is recognized for his leadership roles across various industries and his contributions to sustainable Bitcoin mining and the global digital nomad movement.[2]
Early Life and Education[edit]
Wall grew up in Hudson, Quebec. He holds a Master of Journalism from The University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Bishop's University. During his studies, he participated in exchange programs at Rhodes University in South Africa and Yonsei University in Korea.[3]
Career[edit]
Wall's journalism career began on CBC Newsworld's "Culture Shock." He then spent nine years as a video journalist at CBC News, working on programs such as "CBC News: Sunday" and the flagship "The National." His coverage included significant events in Canada, the US, and internationally, including 9/11 in New York, the 2005 Tsunami in Indonesia, and Barack Obama's 2008 election.[1] Notably, his 2009 feature on hockey parents included Mitch Marner's father and Michael McLeod's mother, both of whose children later advanced to the NHL. His documentary "Mission House" earned a Gemini Award nomination in 2006.[4][3]
Wall co-founded Hubud Coworking Space in Bali in 2012, the first coworking space in the region, which played a pivotal role in fostering the global digital nomad movement.[1][2] In 2015, Lonely Planet and Forbes named Hubud one of the top 10 coworking spaces in the world.[2]
Wall served as the CEO and Chairman of Argo Blockchain,[5] a company listed on the LSE and Nasdaq, from 2020 to early 2023.[6] Under his leadership, the company surpassed a billion pounds in market cap on the LSE, secured a dual listing on the Nasdaq in New York, and successfully raised over $200 million in capital.[7][6] The company also significantly expanded its operations, establishing a notable presence in Texas, recognized for its advantageous economic and energy incentives for crypto mining.[7][8] During his tenure, Wall also spearheaded initiatives to further reduce the environmental impact of crypto mining. He stepped down from his position at Argo in early 2023.[6]
