Pheasanticide

The deliberate and wanton butchery and destruction of pheasants in the areas around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. First thought to have originated near to the River Churn sometime between 2010 and 2016 as a pass-time to mitigate the stresses of a busy job. Often this barbarity was conducted under the guise of 'road traffic safety' or 'pheasant euthanasia' and could be passed off to horrified onlookers as an act of kindness, rather than sadism. The phenomena is not known to extend beyond the species of the subfamily Phasianinae, of the family Phasianidae in the order Galliformes or beyond the narrow geographical confines of North Wiltshire and South East Gloucestershire.

Although the practice is now commonly adopted by opportunist road kill hunters, it was originally said to have been invented by a more refined gentleman who was looking for an alternative use for a 2 meter ranging pole. It is not clear if the phrase 'pheasant plucker' is connected to this form of sadism as most sources indicate the phrase 'pheasant plucker' pre dates the first known act of pheasanticide.

Public displays of pheasanticide have been known to lead to PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) especially in the young. PTSD is especially prevalent where a relationship of trust has previously existed between the pheasant murderer and innocent onlooker.
