Phelan Porteous (/flən pɔːrəs/) (born September 4, 1983), also known by the portmanteau mononym Phelous, is a Canadian YouTuber, film critic, and comedian. He is best known as a former Channel Awesome reviewer, although he left the site in 2015.[4] Following his departure from Channel Awesome, he created his own YouTube channel, and posts reviews weekly. Porteous's first video was a review of the film Mac and Me, but he became known for his reviews of horror films. Nowadays, he mostly reviews animated films, especially obscure direct-to-video ones and mockbusters of Walt Disney Studios films. He is also known for his YouTube series Bootleg Zones, where he reviews bootleg toys, and for his Mortal Komedy videos, a parody of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

YouTube career

Porteous joined Channel Awesome in 2008 under the name Phelous, one of many reviewers on the then-new site. At the time, he mainly reviewed horror films, particularly schlocky b-movies. He left the website in 2015 and subsequently created his own YouTube channel, which he maintains to this day. He frequently reviews animated films, many of which are from the obscure German animation company Dingo Pictures.

Personal life

In 2021, Porteous married his longtime girlfriend Allison Pregler, a fellow Channel Awesome reviewer who is known under the name Obscurus Lupa. Porteous is an avid fan of Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, collecting merchandise from both franchises and frequently reviewing media related to the two properties.
