Photonix Technologies, founded in 1994 in the Binghamton Metropolitan Area of Upstate New York, is a manufacturer of precision, high durability test instruments and accessories for the fiber optic communications market. The company has won a number of Defense Department contracts to supply test equipment to the military and is one of the top 40 companies in New York Congressional District 22 in terms of total moneys awarded.[1]

History[edit]

Government contracts[edit]

Photonix Technologies has been awarded multiple contracts for products used by the US Navy, the US Marine Corps, and a variety of military subcontractors. Contracts awarded in 2002 onward each totaled more than $100k.[2]

Products[edit]

Photonix Technologies primarily manufactures hand-held electronic test equipment for fiber optic testing and installation. This includes optical power meters, laser and LED sources, and leak detectors. Photonix products are specifically designed to withstand impact and crushing force while maintaining accurate operation.

Flashpistol series[edit]

In March 2009, Photonix Technologies introduced its Flashpistol optical leak detection gun. Its patent-pending design introduced a new generation of product to the fiber industry, the IRFL or infra-red fault locator. It is similar to VFL or visible fault locator devices commonly used in the industry except it uniquely addresses the needs of installers and long haul service technicians because of its high sensitivity and form. The FLASHpistol(tm) complements the FLASHdetector(tm) leak detection probe which was first sold in 1996 and under U.S. Navy contract since 1997.

Lanlite series[edit]

Lanlite products are the low-cost test offering of Photonix Technologies. Lanlite meters and sources are available in common fiber communication wavelengths. The differentiating feature of these devices is their durable aluminum packaging.

Techlite series[edit]

Techlite products are high precision equipment designed for aggressive military or telco applications. Source units can be are available at 850 nm, 1300 nm, 1310 nm, or 1550 nm and have four switchable modulation frequencies. Meter units can be switched to read all four wavelengths to an accuracy of +/-.2dBm and can be built with data storage and upload capability.
