Dr. Piero Bonissone is one of the pioneers in applying Artificial intelligence to industrial applications, including AI-based diagnostic system for locomotives, insurance underwriting and financial profolio assessments [1].
He has also played a critical role in AI-related professional societies. He was one of the leaders of the IEEE Neural Network Council, which later became IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. He was the first President of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, when IEEE Neural Network Council became the Computational Intelligence Society in 2002.
Dr. Bonissone has also made important contributions to AI-related journals. He served as Editor-In-Chief of one of the leading journals about reasoning under uncertainty in AI, The International Journal of Approximate Reasoning, for 13 years [2] He is also a co-author of several important edited publications, including Handbook of Fuzzy Computation.
As a Chief Scientist At General Electric Global Research, Dr. Bonissone has provided technical leadership for 34 years on a wide range of AI-related projects, resulted in high-impact technologies, patents, and scholarship publications on both AI foundations (e.g., reasoning under uncertainty) and AI applications have been broadly cited by researchers and practitioners worldwide.
Dr. Bonissone's broad accomplishments in AI and intelligent systems are recognized as a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of AAAI.
