Following the release of the album, the band mustered support for themselves on a two month-long tour across America alongside fellow alternative rock bands Knuckle Puck, Boston Manor, Free Throw, and Jetty Bones, and on the second leg of the tour, Homesafe, and Save Face.[1] The album, despite being officially classified as Alternative/Indie, has been compared to the sound of early emo bands such as Taking Back Sunday.[2] The album features an electric version of the acoustic track "Deluxe Capacitor" as the opening song, whose acoustic version was first released on the band's 2017 EP, Opportunities.
Composition, Production, and Lyrical Themes
The composition of all songs on the album is commonly credited to lead vocalist Nathan "Tades" Sanville and rhythm guitarist Chris Freeman, the two of whom contribute, almost equally, all vocals on the album.[3] All songs were recorded and produced by Nick Diener at Oneder Studios in Chesaning, MI. The first song written for the album was "I Hate The Gooey Disk", and it was conceived the first time that current drummer Brandon Blakely met with the other members of the band.[4] Many of the songs include lyrics about past relationships, while some, such as "There Was a Semi-Fight on I-69" portray themes of discontent with a bad family life and self-hatred. Despite the album's success in gaining a following for the fairly new-to-the-scene band, it often receives criticism for having many songs that sound similar either in lyrics or instrumental composition.[2]
