Piotr Chomczynski

Piotr Chomczynski is a Polish scientist. His discovery of a cheap reliable single step method for RNA extraction has been credited with significant in laying the groundwork for biotechnology. The paper which detailed this discovery, entitled "Single-step method of RNA isolation by acid guanidinium thiocyanate phenol chloroform extraction" has received over 62, 000 citations by December 2014,[1] the most citations of any paper since 1983.[2] Chomcyznski also founded the Molecular Research Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he currently resides.

He has been named #17 in the Guardians 2003 "Giants of Science" list, Businessman of the Year in 2005 by the Republican National Committee, and inducted into the Knights Cross of the Order of Merit by the president of Poland.[3]
