Philippa A. A. Karikari (born 4th May, 1996), known professionally as Pippa Ama Karikari is a Ghanaian-British model, beauty pageant titleholder, writer and philanthropist. She previously ranked Top 5 in the Miss Swimsuit UK semi-finals 2019.[1] She represented Ghana in the Miss Pride of Africa UK 2019 finals, where she won 2nd place achieving the lifetime title of 1st Princess.[2] She also represented Ghana in Miss Africa (GB) 2021 where she ranked Top 10.[3]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Karikari was born in Ealing, West London to Ghanaian parents. She briefly studied styling and creative direction at London College of Fashion before deciding to persue a career in public service, modelling and magazine editing.[4] [5] She is the paternal granddaughter of Chief economic policy advisor Kwame Karikari who assisted the acting president of Ghana Ignatius Acheampong.[6]

Modelling[edit]

Karikari started work as a model in her early 20s and appeared in fashion shows, e-commerce, music videos, promotional campaigns and publications and most notably the first ever African campaign for Monster Energy in 2017.[7] [8] She also appeared in Lojay's first music video released as the lead female character.

She started her career when she was scouted for a design student while attending the London College of Fashion and walked for the first time in their end of year show. [5] It was during her time spent rehearsing for subsequent fashion shows, that she was then advised to enter pageantry and again by her modelling manager a year later, despite initial reluctance. [8]

Miss Swimsuit UK[edit]

Karikari’s first pageant was at the age of 22, when she entered as a semi-finalist for the Miss Swimsuit UK Leeds heat. She ranked Top 5 and won the 'Best In Social Media' award.[9] During this time, Karikari advocated on the importance of education and the lack of regulation and need for a pastoral level of support in the modelling industry, through interviews given by the Liverpool Echo and Liverpool Hope.[9][5]

Miss Pride of Africa UK[edit]

In 2019 Karikari entered the Miss Pride of Africa finals in London representing Ghana, among 14 contestants from 11 countries. She won 2nd place, and was crowned 'Miss Pride Of Africa- 1st Princess', achieving Ghana's highest ranking in the competition since their 1st place win at the pageants launch in 2015. [2] She also won the award for 'Best In Swimwear'. Karikari currently holds the record for the longest reigning 1st Princess for Miss Pride Of Africa due to the postponed 2020 and 2021 finals as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. [2]

Miss Commonwealth International[edit]

Karikari was selected to compete as 'Miss Ghana/Miss Commonwealth Ghana' from 2018-2020 in the international Miss Commonwealth finals in London, which was later postponed then cancelled due to Covid-19.[10][11]

Miss Africa GB[edit]

Karikari was selected to compete as 'Miss West London', representing Ghana as a finalist for Miss Africa in London held on the 5th November 2021. [12] [12]She raised funds to improve homelessness for the Whitechapel Mission.[13] She ranked Top 10 and became one of only two contestants to win double awards at the finals including, ‘Best In Evening Wear’ and ‘Most Photogenic’.
