Pippo Casellati (Pietro Casellati) is an Italian artist.

Life

He was born in 1932 in Venice, where he still lives. From 1954 to 1959 he attended the school of Bruno Saetti at the Fine Art Academy in Venice, where he received his degree before travelling to Paris en route to attend lessons at an Italian art school, specializing in mosaic and drawing techniques.

Work

He was included among the second-generation Spatialists soon, supported by Lucio Fontana, who personally often followed municipal, regional and national Casellati exhibitions, acquiring some of his works. On the occasion of the 4th Biennale dell'incisione Italiana (1960) promoted by the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, he appeared out of competition with a work which was defined by Nonveiller as gestural paintings with figurative elements near certain informal existential values, emphasizing works that distinguished themselves from usual tradition. Being a great lover of antiquity, he developed a passion for collecting, becoming known as a prestigious antiquarian and art collector during numerous shows. Retiring from the public stage, Casellati gradually ceased to exhibit the results of his studies despite the disappointment of collectors and critics, seeking a new direction. In November 2012 he agreed to bring his work to light again, thanks to the personal care of Karine Trotel (Venice), giving the public the opportunity to appreciate its quality and value.[1]

Several Casellati works are now in many collections in Venice, Udine, Padua, Milan, Turin and Paris. Personal exhibitions: 1957 – Galleria Santo Stefano-Venezia; 1959 – Galleria del Girasole – Udine; 1961 Galleria d’Arte «Il Traghetto» - Venezia; 1961 – Galleria Montenapoleone 6 A – Milano.
