Plagiarismcheck.org

History

PlagiarismCheck.org is a cloud-based platform for finding similarities in texts. It was first released in 2011 to help students, educational institutions, and business organizations to detect different cases of plagiarism, as well as to streamline the assessment process...[1][2]

In 2018, PlagiarismCheck.org joined the ENAI (European Network for Academic Integrity) to spread ideas of academic integrity and honesty.[3]

Technology

In 2016, the improved algorithm that defines word-for-word match, word rearrangements, and substitutions was introduced [4][5]. The tool was equipped with a complex language analysis [6], making it possible to detect similarity even after text spinners significantly alter writing [7][8].

PlagiarismCheck.org runs through all open resources and repositories[9]. The algorithm spots letters that are similar in Latin and Cyrillic alphabets and finds if they were substituted this way[10]. The software does not take into account quotes and references that are properly cited according to APA, MLA, Chicago, or other popular formatting styles. After the analysis is completed, a detailed report with links to all matched sources is generated[11][12]

In 2018, functionality for K-12 and higher education was implemented[13]. It allows educational institutions to access and manage their accounts, add students, teachers, organize submissions, and review the statistics of each participant.

Integrations

In 2018, PlagiarismCheck.org started working with the Google classroom learning management system. The integration is realized through Oauth 2[14]

Moodle integration has been finalized later this year[15]. Type of integration - Moodle plugin.

The software also provides an open-source API for integration with any internal systems academia might have.

Data protection

PlagiarismCheck.org fully complies with GDPR and personal copyrights. The submitted papers are never stored or used to search for similarities in new checks[16].
