Platinum J (birth name: Jermaine Melvin) is a renowned America Hip-Hop dancer, choreographer, music manager, and entrepreneur. [1][2]
Career[edit]
In 2009 Platinum J won Baltimore's Got Talent in the 18 and older category; with that came more opportunities in the dance and TV world. He finished his education by getting his Master's degree in Marketing at American InterContinental University. [2]
Platinum J Melvin is a choreographer and has taught teens and adults from ages 8-50. His unique style has made him very popular locally, which is how he received the stage name "Platinum J." Jermaine has performed at many local events to include pep rallies and community services. Although Michael Jackson and James Brown highly influence him, he has an originality that compares to none. Jermaine "Platinum J" Melvin also produces his own music mixes for his routines and continues to put his personal stamp on today's modern hip-hop dance. [2]

Early Life and Education[edit]
Platinum J was born in 1985 in a military family in Nuremberg, Germany. He lived there for two years and moved to the States at the age of eight. In Washington, he took up Karate and later became a Brown Belt, and during that time, he also started dancing. [1][5]
After a few years, he moved to Maryland, where he started laying down the groundwork as a dancer and attended the Harford Technical High School, a performing arts school. Here he also studied Computer Tech. After high school, he auditioned for "So You Think Can Dance," which broadcasted on Fox Television.[1]
Accolades[edit]
Platinum J's achievements include appearing on the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" and performing for the Grammy award. He was also nominated for R&B Superstar Ginuwine during the Baltimore Believe Tour. In 2009 Platinum J won the grand prize after a stellar performance for "Baltimore's Got Talent." [1][2]
