Parker Makani Bata (born March 7, 2000), known professionally as PmBata, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and songwriter from Kansas City, Missouri. He is best known for his 2018 single "Someone Save Me", 2019 single "Problems", and 2020 single "Nobody Came to My Party".[1] Bata is also known for his participation in online rap contests hosted by rapper Futuristic, producer AKT Aktion, and producer Kato.[2]

Early Life[edit]

Parker Makani Bata was born on March 7, 2000, in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents were both public school band directors. His father introduced him to jazz at a young age. Bata discovered hip-hop in 5th grade and began writing raps.

His father further developed his musical skills as his high school jazz band director at Lincoln College Prep. During Bata's sophomore year of high school (2016), he formed a hip-hop/jazz band named Theta Intellect with his peers that participated in, and won, the Nelson-Atkins Teen Battle of the Bands. This victory granted them an interview on 90.9 The Bridge and a spot to open for Cold War Kids and The Struts at Kansas City's Middle of the Map Fest.Theta Intellect disbanded shortly after it was formed.[3][4]

Career[edit]

Bata's production career began after meeting local Kansas City rapper and producer Danny Hatem. The two artists collaborated on a tape called Verbatim, released on September 22, 2018, that was both self-produced and produced by other local record producers.[5] Bata competed in various online rap competitions such as Futuristic and AKT Aktion's "One Take Rap Contest", AKT Aktion's "Eat My Beats" contest, and Kato's "Collab For the Crown" contest.

Bata's most recent album, The Museum, was released on April 19, 2019 and featured popular tracks such as Problems, Where She Go, and Dm Pm.[6] During the summer of 2019, Bata signed with his managers Dre Wiseman and Kevin Seals of Seven Entertainment. Currently, he is working with 5X Grammy award-winning record producer and song-writer Brian Kennedy.[2]
