Pocket World (previously known as Pokémon World) was an unofficial British video games magazine published monthly by Imagine Publishing which focused mainly on the Pokémon franchise of video games, trading cards and anime. The magazine also featured news and reviews for games on all platforms. At issue 125, on 5 January 2012, the magazine changed its title from Pokémon World to Pocket World and featured more information on franchises such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, Skylanders and Bakugan, despite this change, Pokémon still was the magazine's main focus.[1] The magazine started in 2000, and ended as Pocket World in October 2015, after the release of Issue 174.[2]

Sections (while the magazine was known as Pokémon World)[edit]

These sections were featured in the magazine during its run as Pokémon World.

  • "Welcome": This page greeted the readers, giving them a brief summary of what was to come for the issue, below the welcome message was an index of the magazine's content.
  • "Mew’s News"; a News section for Pokémon related news.
  • "Pokébay"; Listed Pokémon items from eBay that were considered rare.
  • "Pokéchat"; where readers would send in fan mail and pictures to the magazine.
  • "Colour Me In..." where a page or two was left for the reader to colour in a Pokémon Picture.
  • "Ask Professor Yew"; A character made by the magazine called ‘Professor Yew’ would answer fan's questions about the magazine or about the Pokémon games.[4]
  • "Cartoon!"; A section was dedicated to the anime episode that had aired currently.
  • "Movie!"; Was a section included if there was a Pokémon movie to do an article about.
  • "Event!"; Included if a major Pokémon event occurred for the magazine to report about.
  • "Make and Do!" Had given readers instructions on how to create crafts that were related to Pokémon.
  • "Toys!"; Had displayed some Pokémon toys available at the time.
  • "Game Showcase!"; Would show video games that weren't Pokémon related, and the magazine would rate these games by an 'excite-o-meter'.
  • "Pika-Pics"; Contained fan art of Pokémon sent in by readers.
  • "Design a monster"; Two pages that would show fan's own Pokémon designs, the last page would have a space for the reader to draw their own Pokémon to send in.
  • "Poképuzzles"; Was where puzzles based on Pokémon were placed.
  • "Pokémon Trading card game"; a section dedicated to the trading card game.
  • "Ditto’s Hot Picks"; Details about certain cards and decks that were picked for the week.
  • "Pokémon Proffessor"; This section would describe how to play the trading card games and bring up tips.
  • "Fanfiction"; A page or few would display a fan fiction sent in by a fan.[5]
  • "Pokémon challenge"; Readers could be chosen to have a battle with 'Team Lukémon' if they sent their photo and friend code via email to the magazine, the details of what Pokémon were chosen and how the fight had carried out were described on this page.
  • "Character close up"; At the end of the issue, the magazine had showcased a Pokémon character, giving out facts about them.[6]
