The Polish Runt Liliput is a Polish breed of bantam chicken known for its relatively uncommon shape and size. The oldest accounts of this specific breed come from Poland, although documented in medieval sketches and paintings, their exact origins are unknown. The breed also has a distinguishable attitude, these birds are much more fidgety than the more common chicken breeds and much more dominant and even aggressive.[1] Moreover, Polish Liliput was acknowledged as a separate breed of chicken in the recent years by the Pigeon and Poultry Breeder Association. [2]

Polish Liliput is most commonly bred as a show bird. Despite this they are often used as lawn caretakers, often fighting with the smaller predators not minding their size. Accordingly, Polish rarely go broody and are noted for their white-gray eggs. There are many standard color vatiations these birds could have such as black, buff, red, white and mixed.[3]

Etymology[edit]

The origins of the breed's name are definitely based on its anatomy and old-polish slang. One thing is certain and that is the "Polish" word in breed name is used for the full breed name and not just to state the country of breed origin. Outside of Poland the breed is often called Old Polish Bantam as the ancestors of Polish Runt Liliput come from Bantam and the breeds are relatively similar.
