Sarah Àlainn (Born 1986) is a Tokyo based, Australia raised singer, violinist and composer. She signed to Universal Music Japan in 2012, releasing her debut album Celeste the same year. Àlainn is fluent in English, Japanese and Italian, and performs in all three languages.[1]

Background[edit]

From the age of 5, she began her study of music with the violin. [2] When 6 years old, Àlainn began studying under Australian violinist Perry Hart, a pupil of violinist Szymon Goldberg.[3] Àlainn remained under Hart's tutelage until her death in 2002 and was her last pupil. She then enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and was taught by Wanda Wiłkomirska.

While continuing to study the violin, Àlainn began classical singing lessons from the age of 14. Her vocal range spans 3 octaves.[4] Throughout her school years, Àlainn participated competitively in her singing and violin, culminating in her winning national competitions.[5]

Professional Career[edit]

In 2010, Àlainn was selected to sing on Yasunori Mitsuda's end theme for the videogame "Xenoblade Chronicles".[6] Àlainn again sang the ending theme on the 2012 released computer game "Time Travelers". The soundtrack was composed by Hideki Sakamoto with Àlainn jointly composing the English and Japanese lyrics for end theme song.[7]

In 2012, Àlainn signed a record deal with Universal Music Japan. Her debut album Celeste was released the same year. It reached #1 spot on iTunes Japan Vocal chart.[8]

Àlainn has directed, co-written, sung vocals, played the violins on a variety of different company’s TV advertisements including Sony, POLA and Mitsubishi Corporation.

In March 2014 Àlainn sang at a Tokyo FM/Japan Airlines sponsored JETS TEAM concert hosted by Japanese actor, Takao Osawa. Her performance was backed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.[9]

Later in March 2014, Àlainn, backed by Rukyu Phlharmonic Orchestra sung at "Okinawa Game Takt", an event that celebrates Japanese videogame music. She appears with composers including Hideki Sakamoto, Yasunori Mitsuda, Yoko Shinomura and Kenji Ito.[10][11]

Àlainn second studio album, to be produced by Yasunori Mitsuda, is set to be released Summer 2014.

Other Work[edit]

Àlainn was commissioned to translate into English the children’s picture book by Tamio Koshino, “オレ・ダレ” - “Who? Me!”. The book was releasesed as an audio e-book in China as well as interactive storybook app for ios with Àlainn narrating both these formats.
