Pollachi Road is an arterial road in Coimbatore, India. This road connects the city to the southern suburbs in the Coimbatore metropolitan area. Many major educational institutions in the Coimbatore metropolitan area are located on the road.[1] Running from north to south, the road starts at Aathupalam junction and ends at Malumichampatti by-pass junction where it joins NH 948, Beyond Malumichampatti Junction, the road branches into two, with one traversing eastwards to Chettipalayam, while the other continues westwards to Pollachi and beyond to form the National Highway 948 (India).[2][3]

Description[edit]

Pollachi road connects the city to Pollachi, Udumalaipettai and Palani. This road is a part of National Highways 548 (Dindigul - Sathyamangalam Highway) is now maintained by the National Highways Authority of India. This road is a 10-km stretch running diagonally across the city in the North-South orientation, slightly moving along the South East tangent. Trichy road starts near the Aathupalam Junction, and it passes through the important neighbourhoods of Kurichi, Sundarapuram, Eachanari and finally Malumichampatti.[4]

Alignment[edit]

The road is a two lane road in most stretches. The stretch between Karpagam University and Malumichampattu has been recently widened into four lanes, as a part of the four lane road project from Eachanari to Pollachi.

Flyovers[edit]

  • A railway flyover was opened in 2012 over a railway line passing between Podanur junction and Palakkad junction.
