Poothrukkovil Sree Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple. It is located in Kurichithanam in Marangattupilly panchayath and near Uzhavoor in Kottayam district in the Indian state of Kerala.[1] Poothrukkovil Sree Krishna Temple is one of the ancient pilgrim centers of Kerala. Lord Krishna with His consort Rugmini (Kuchela Salgathi) is the deity (dhyanam) here[2]. It is commonly known as ‘Dakshina Guruvayur' (Guruvayur of the south). But here unlike Guruvayoor, the Darsana is towards the west.[3] [4]

History[edit]

The first Akhila Bharatha Sreemad Bhagavatha Sathram was conducted at Poothrukkovil Temple in 1983. The silver jubilee edition of the Akhila Bharatha Sreemad Bhagavatha Sathram was also conducted at Kurichithanam Poothrukkovil Temple in 2007.[5]

Festivals[edit]

The most important festival of the temple is ‘Ekadasi Vilakku’, coinciding with the Guruvayur Ekadasi[6]. Thus the devotees call it ‘Dakshina Guruvayoor’. “Bhagavatha Sapthaham” is conducted regularly during “Vaisagham” of every year. This too was initiated by Bhagavatha Hamsam Brahmasree Malliyoor.

Subordinate deities[edit]

The temple has Bhagavathy, Shiva, Ganapathi, Naga and Yakshi as subordinate deities.[7]
