Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition (2000-2007)
The porcupine cactus appeared in Sandstorm: Mastering the Perils of Fire and Sand (2005).
The porcupine cactus is a cactus that explodes whenever something gets near it, blanketing the surrounding area with a layer of thorns and internal organs.
Tyler Linn of Cracked.com identified the porcupine cactus as one of "15 Idiotic Dungeons and Dragons Monsters" in 2009, describing its main attack form as "gross", and commenting that "Aside from the pointlessly redundant combination (porcupine cactus? How about an "eel snake"?), the fucking thing blows up at the first sign of activity. Just hide behind a tree and toss a squirrel at it or something."
