Portea Medical, the Bangalore-based health startup was established by Meena Ganesh and Krishnan Ganesh. The company offers in-home healthcare services including physiotherapy, nursing, doctor consultation, trained attendant service, medical equipment and lab tests. Currently, Portea is headquartered in Bangalore and serves customers across 16 cities in India.

Portea has partnered with healthcare providers, including 50 hospitals, to enable home visits for patients who cannot travel to a hospital. Portea is an Indian Home-Healthcare service provider that delivers in-home healthcare service. The medical team comprises of qualified physiotherapists, nurses and doctors. Portea also provides medical equipment at home for respiratory care, sleep therapy, geriatric & mobility care, orthopedic and physio care, cardiac care and more on a rental and purchase basis. Portea brings laboratory services at home by sending Phlebotomist's to patient homes for sample collection. Diagnostic reports are then mailed to the patient via mail. Patients can also schedule doctor consultations at home.

Since July, 2013 - founding date, Portea has served more than 2,50,000 customers.

Physiotherapy - healing from physical pain. Physiotherapy can be helpful in healing back pain, sports injuries, issues during post surgical rehab, frozen shoulder, etc. Physiotherapists assess , diagnose, and develop a treatment plan which varies depending on the patient’s needs. A physiotherapy session is usually of an hour, depending on the severity of the problem. Experts help with basic and advanced movement exercises to improve the patient’s mobility. Portea has been providing in home physiotherapy sessions since inception.

Lab tests - laboratory medical tests. Booking a lab test with Portea is quick and easy. Patients can avail a wide range of lab tests including Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Complete blood count, Fast Blood Sugar (FBS), Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS), Lipid Profile, Serum Creatinine, Uric Acid and more. Portea was founded in the month of July, 2013. With 1700 employees and operations across 16 cities, Portea brings the full range of geriatric, chronic, post-operative care as well as allied healthcare services to homes of patients. Meena Ganesh and Ganesh Krishnan bought Portea Medical in July 2013 from Zachary Jones and Karan Aneja who founded the company in mid 2012. K Ganesh is a successful serial entrepreneur with four successful green field ventures and exits. His last venture TutorVista was acquired by Pearson company which is an USA & UK listed education leader.. Portea acquired specialty pharmaceutical distributor MedybizPharma in November 2015 to deliver better pharmacy care to patients with chronic conditions who have ongoing needs for medication.This January, it picked up a majority stake in PSTakeCare, a health-tech start-up which offers information to patients on doctors, hospitals and labs for any medical procedure. “The acquisitions we make are driven by customer demand in those areas,” said Ganesh.Portea employs more than 5,000 people and handles over 70,000 home visits a month across 24 cities nationwide.^[1]

The Bangalore-based firm has been on a acquisition spree in the last two years including the two buys of Health Mantra and PSTakeCare in 2016.While Health Mantra is a home medical equipment services provider, PSTakeCare is a health-tech start-up which offers information to patients on doctors, hospitals and labs for any medical procedure. ^[2]

KIMS Hospitals and Portea Medical have entered into a partnership to expand the Portea’s home healthcare services for the patients of KIMS Hospitals in Secunderabad and Kondapur. "Our partnership with Portea is aimed to ensure this, with high quality medical care and support being made available to patients within the comfort of their own homes,’’ B Abhinay, Vice-President, Strategy, KIMS Hospitals, said in a release. Meena Ganesh, ([CEO]), Portea Medical, said: “We believe our hospital-like care at home will encourage faster recovery for patients and enable specialists at KIMS to focus their efforts at the hospital for the treatment of patients requiring critical care.” ^[3]

Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd has entered into an agreement with Portea Medical Pvt Ltd for providing post-operative care to patients at their homes. The partnership will help Manipal Health expand its home medical services practice. It will function under the name of Manipal Homecare, which it started in 2010. Existing Manipal Homecare staff will work with Portea which will run the service.^[4]
