Praana: (Sanskrit word; pronounced Praanah; means life force/breath/soul/ghost) is an upcoming multilinual[2] Indian movie in Malayalam, Telugu[3] [4], Kannada and Hindi thriller film directed by V. K. Prakash and written by Rajesh Sivaraman. A thriller, the movie is a female-oriented subject, with Nithya Menen being the only actor in the movie [5] . According to the director, Praana tackles a socially-relevant subject. "Praana: revolves around a writer played by Nithya. It deals with an issue of contemporary relevance.

Praana: has P C Sreeram cranking the camera. Oscar-winning sound editor Resul Pookutty does the sound editing while world-famous jazz musician Louis Banks will compose the tunes. According to the director, Praana will be the first in India to use the scientific system of live sync sound surround format. Resul is capturing all the ambient noise for the movie. Principal photography began in Kumily, Kerala on October 2nd,2017. The film is set to be released in September 2018.[citation needed]

Plot[edit]

Tara Anuradha is a famous Indian-English novelist[6], who has been nominated for her contribution in writing. Being an activist and social reformer, Tara Anuradha has her strong perception on life. She is very open and strong on making her comments on current affairs and socio-political underplays. Her vision, freedom of expression and opinion often invite scrutiny form society. She is an independent, turbulent soul, often at loggerheads with the dogmas prevalent in the society.

Praana: … a thriller[7] directed by the Malayali filmmaker VK Prakash, will be made in four languages --- Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada --- and has a stellar crew including acclaimed cinematographer PC Sreeram, Oscar winning sound designer Resul Pookutty and music composer Louis Banks. The script, written by Rajesh Jayaraman, was the deal clincher that brought the talented team together. Rajesh has worked in all four industries and also helmed a Bollywood and a Marathi film. Nithya Menen will wage a war against injustice and intolerance with her words in her multi-lingual titled Praana:. On the film, the National Award winning filmmaker tells us, "The entire movie has a thrilling mood to it and is set in a hill station. Nithya plays an English writer who focuses on social issues. The movie also deals with intolerance and injustice that's prevailing in the contemporary society." Technically the movie would be pushing boundaries, he says, as it will be the first film in India to have sync surround sound. All the dialogues are capture at the time of shoot.

Filming[edit]

Principal photography commenced on October 2nd, 2017 at Kumily, Kerala.[8] Nithya's role is very performance-oriented and this will be one of her best roles so far. We have started the shoot in Kumily," says the director. Praana will be made in four languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu and Kannada. Praana also boasts of a stellar crew, with P C Sreeram cranking the camera.

The songs featured in the film is composed by Louiz Banks while the lyrics are written by Rafeeq Ahamed and Lakshmi Sreekumar. There are 3 songs in the film. Nithya Menen has rendered one song for the film each in the 4 different languages. Also, Sharadambaram fame Shilpa Raj has rendered another song in the 4 languages. She has also rendered the theme song composed by Ratheesh Vega.
