Pradip Malde

Pradip Malde (b. 1957) is a photographer and educator who has lived and worked in Africa, India, Spain, and Britain and currently resides in the United States.[1] He is a 2018 photography fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.[2] He is currently a Professor of Art in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies[3] at Sewanee: The University of the South. His work is included in the public collections at the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago; Houston Museum of Fine Art, Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, Princeton University Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, London; the Scottish Arts Council, Edinburgh; the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh; the Arts Council of Great Britain, London; the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Collection, London; the British Council, London, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; and The Royal Photographic Society Collection at the National Museum of Film, Photography and Television, England[4].

Life[edit]

Malde was born in Arusha, Tanzania to parents of east Indian origin[5]. He received a Diploma from the Bournemouth College of Art in England and an MA from the Glasgow School of Art[6] in Scotland in 1980[7]. After the completion of his academic studies, he spent four years in Orkney[8] before accepting a teaching position at Napier Polytechnic University in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he taught from 1985 until 1988[9]. In 1985, Malde moved to the United States and began a long-term engagement as a printer, curator, and writer for the Imogen Cunningham Trust[10]. Since 1985, Malde has also taught at a range of institutions in the United States, such as The School of the Art Institute of Chicago[11], California State University at Long Beach[12], University of Georgia[13], Athens, GA, and Anderson Ranch[14], Colorado, in addition to Sewanee: The University of the South[15].
