Pratap college is a college in Amalner town of Jalgaon district in Maharashtra. [2][3][4][5] It is re-accredited by 'A+' grade with CGPA 3.52 by NACC.[6]

History

The college was established on 20 June 1945, before India's Independence.[7] It is founded by Pratap Shetji, a renowned donor of Khandesh, Maharashtra.[7] The college is one of the oldest colleges in Jalgaon district. This college and MJ college of Jalgaon were established in the same year. K.R.Kanitkar was the first principal of Pratap college.[7] It is among the first two colleges of Jalgaon district, established in 1945. Sharing the first spot with MJ college, Jalgaon. From 1945 to 1949 it was affiliated to Bombay University and from 1949 to 1990 to Poona University. After NMU (North Maharashtra University) formed, it came under it on 15 August 1990.[8] The college has DRDO and DIT financed major research projects.[9]

Geography

It is situated in the western part of Jalgaon district in Amalner town of Amalner taluka. It is in a rural and tribal area. Most of the students are from nearby rural and tribal areas.[10]

Administration

It is the first college in Nashik division to get autonomous status from UGC.[7] Five colleges in Maharashtra have this status, including Pratap college, Amalner.[7] It is awarded best college of the university by NMU.

Facilities

The college has courses in Arts and Science from 11th grade to UG, PG level.[7] For laboratories, teaching rooms, etc. It has 2 Lakh feet of academic space.[11]

Honours

  • University Grants Commission awarded it twice as a college having potential for excellence.[12]
