The Priestly Union Marcel Lefebvre is a traditionalist Catholic apostolic association, founded on July 15, 2014, by Bishop Richard Williamson after his expulsion from the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X.
History
In strong opposition to Bishop Bernard Fellay, who would like to obtain a canonical agreement with the Pope of Rome, several priests[1] belonging to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X met in Avrillé, France, in July 2014, around of Bishop Richard Williamson[2] and they gave rise to this new union born of all former members of the SSPX. The priests gathered in the Lefebvrian Church represent "the most extreme wing" of Catholic traditionalists, the so-called resisters: in opposition to the proposal for a (possible) canonical agreement, sought by Bishop Bernard Fellay with the Roman papacy; as deeply opposed to modernism and ecumenism. A union of Catholic traditionalists that aims to bring together all those secular priests who authentically claim to be heirs of the thought of the archbishop, Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre, and who claim Saint Pius X as their patron saint. On March 19, 2015 in Nova Friburgo in Brazil at a Benedictine monastery Williamson ordained Jean-Michel Faure bishop[3] without a papal mandate.[4] Dom Jean-Michel Faure returns to France and opens the PUML seminary under the patronage of Saint Louis Maria Grignion de Montfort and Blessed Noël Pinot.
