History
Artists from Nottingham worked with Arts Council England and Nottingham City Council to secure a permanent space for artists in the city. In 2012, most artists’ studios were on short and temporary contracts. Primary was eventually founded in 2012 by a group of Nottingham Artists, including Niki Russell and Michael Forbes. It was created with the vision of providing dedicated studio spaces for artists. Primary received support from Southern Water [3] to "The funding will go towards the creation of a publicly accessible, multi-use community outdoor area".
Primary is situated in a Grade II[4] former school building. Douglas Primary School, also known as Ilkeston Road Board School, was designed by Abraham Harrison Goodall (1847-1912) [5]
