Andrea Summers (August 2, 1979 – May 21, 2020), better known by her stage names Princess Loko, Loko, and Ms. Loko, was a gangsta rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. She was an early part of the underground Memphis rap scene of the 90s, and worked together with Tommy Wright III on many of his early albums.

Career[edit]

Summers was born in the predominantly African-American Whitehaven area of Memphis, Tennessee, and as such would have been exposed to Memphis rap scene from an early age. She grew up across the street from Tommy Wright III, who she would write albums with, and go on to have a relationship with.[2] She joined Wright's label Street Smart Records in 1993,[3] and worked with Wright on his second album Ashes 2 Ashes, Dust 2 Dust in 1994 when she was only 14 years old.[4] She would continue to work with him on other albums throughout the 90s. She was one of two women in the rap collective Ten Wanted Men, along with La Chat.[2] In 2003, she left Wright's label Street Smart Records, and joined Hy Lyfe Inc.[2], who she would release two albums under. She partook in two of Hy Lyfe's compilation albums, Pure Uncut and Conspiracy (The Album). Most of her work has been collaborative, mostly with Wright and others from Street Smart Records and Hy Lyfe Inc., though she has released two solo projects under Hy Lyfe, IT'S ALL ON ME and Long Ovadue.

Like most of the Memphis rap scene, her work has remained mostly underground, though this has changed in recent years. An unofficial upload of the track "Still pimpin", which she featured on, from the Tommy Wright III album Runnin-N-Gunnin has gotten 2.9 million views on YouTube.[5]

Death[edit]

On the May 21, 2020, Summers died of complications from congestive heart failure at the age of 40.[3]
