Prinye Jaja (born; January 10, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter and entertainer. Prinye was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, where she discovered her interest for music entertainment and law. She released her debut single titled "Sugarcane" produced by Nigerian producer Gospelondebeatz, which was well received within the music industry. Sugarcane is an afrobeat song, with languages consisting of English and nigerian pidgin, giving the single a multicultural experience. Prinye is the great great granddaughter of Jaja of Opobo.
Early life[edit]
Prinye is the youngest of 4 siblings. Her father, Dr. Reuben Mietamuno Jaja is a Nigerian-American businessman and investor. Her mother, Bendu Kromah, is a retired senior auditor for the State of California, of Liberian descendant. Prinye started her interest in music at the age of 6. She enjoyed singing at school talent shows, as well as, going to local music concerts. By 10, Prinye began playing the flute and further took her passion by joining her middle school's band as a flutist. By 16, Prinye had recorded over 100 songs on her elder brothers 7-track studio. With her collection of songs, she now showcased it to friends, family and colleagues, and began her music career.
Music career[edit]
In 2010, Prinye performed for the first time at the prolific Celebrity Centre in Hollywood, California. Receiving great responses from the audience, she was invited to perform again at the iconic House of Blues in West Hollywood, California. By 2015, Prinye relocated to Nigeria to further her music career. In 2016, she released her debut single, titled "Sugarcane" produced by Nigerian producer Gospelondebeatz, that received massive attention from fans, music artist and industry executives. Her musical influences are said to be Fela Kuti, Diana Ross and Beyonce. Prinye is now working on her EP, with a release date set for 2019.
