Pronab Sen is an Indian economist and statistician[1]. He has served as the Chairman of the Indian Statistical Commission and was the first Chief Statistician of India[2]. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and has also served as the Principal Advisor of Power and Energy at the Government of India Planning Commission department.
Career
He has served as the Head of India's national statistical system. In the Planning Commission, he was the principal author and coordinator of Mid-term Appraisal of the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Five Year Plan.

He has been a critic of 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation steps taken by the then Central Government.[3]
