Purdah is an independent documentary film directed by Jeremy Guy, starring Kaikasha Mirza, Saba Mirza, and Al Heena Mirza. The film had its World Premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival in March of 2018.[1] [2]

The film screened at several Film Festivals which include Dances With Films, Indian Film Festival Stuttgart, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Houston, Fünf Seen Filmfestival, South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, River to River Florence Indian Film Festival, Indian Film Festival Münster, Imagine India International Film Festival, and other festivals worldwide.[3]

Purdah is currently available on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube movies, Vudu, Tubi, and Kanopy.[4]

Plot[edit]

Purdah is the inspiring story of a young Indian Muslim woman who trades her burka for dreams of playing on the Mumbai Senior Women's Cricket Team and how the harsh realities for women in her country creates an unexpected outcome for her own family, ultimately shattering and fueling aspirations.[5]

Reception[edit]

The film had a very successful film festival run in the year 2018. After being well received at four screenings at the Cinequest Film Festival, Purdah had its LA Premiere at the famous Chinese Theaters in Hollywood as part of the Dances With Films Festival.[6] The film went on to play around the world and was invited to screen in many Indian film festivals. The overall response to the film since being released online via Video on Demand by distributor Indie Rights has been largely positive.

Purdah currently holds a 100% critic approval rating on the online review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.[7]
